Today was a very good day

So first of all, thanks so much for all the support, well wishes, virtual hugs, etc. that have been pouring in from everyone after my depresso posts of last week. I really appreciate it.

Today was great. After breakfast we wandered down to the market, tooled around and bought some yummy food. Then we went for a walk on the boardwalk and then up the hill to Olan's favourite toy store. Picked up some new trucks (Olan is OBSESSED with pushing trucks and cars around... he could do it for hours). Then we headed over to the Breastfeeding Challenge. This week is Breastfeeding Awareness week so all across Canada at the same time today, groups of mommas gathered and tried to see how many babies they could have latch on at the same time. Last year Halifax had 48, I don't know yet how many there were today. It's done worldwide and last year the Philippines won with something like 3000 odd women in one location. Craziness. I wanted to be a part of it, it may be the only time that I can! It was fun- we hung out with friends, there was entertainment, a giant boob cake (chocolate nipples and all!) which Adam gleefully partook of, and then at the stroke of 11:00 there was a countdown and then breastfeeding madness.

After all that fun we went for brunch. Olan happily hung out, we're very lucky that he's so good in restaurants. Then after a little stop at home to see if Olan would nap (no waaaaay) we headed off to the hospital to visit Peter. Peter is my parents neighbour and a really good family friend. He was cleaning pine cones out of the gutter and fell off his ladder, two stories down to the deck. He has 3 fractured vertebrae in his lower back and is "lucky" but the poor guy is in rough shape. Olan pretty much slept through the visit and woke up to blearily wave before we headed off for groceries. After making a short trip to the park we headed home for dinner, and bed for Olan.

But before he went to bed Olan put on quite a dance show for us. This kid loves music. He can turn the radio on himself and sometimes when he's playing he'll get up, turn the music on, and then go back to his toys. Anyways, he's started trying to dance when there's a song on. Tonight, he's having his naked time before his tub, Adam and I are on the couch. He goes over to the stereo, turns on some classic rock, does a few tentative knee bends and then turns around and starts to dance his way over to us. I have never in my life seen something so hilarious, beautiful and just incredible in all my life. Adam and I were killing ourselves laughing. He is just so incredible, and he's not even ONE!

Daycare: No more updates

I'm all updated out. This week has sucked. I don't want to talk about it or even think about it. I'm sad, sad, sad and it sucks.

Daycare: Day Two

Thankfully, day two went much better. He didn't freak out as we approached the building like I thought he might, instead he happily sat down to play and didn't even seem to notice whether I was there or not. I stayed for about 15 minutes, but it seriously seemed like it was more for me. Then I quietly tiptoed out... something that seems so odd to me, it feels so mean! When I returned an hour later his eyes looked a bit teary but apparently he'd just had a big ole poop and wasn't impressed with having some strange woman dealing with his parts... Adam is totally on board with this :) But he was calming down, without me.

So we decided that I would leave him for a half day today and pick him up after lunch. He and Adam set out earlier this morning, Olan happily nestled against his daddy's chest (which is where he wants to be in the morning anyways). So I sit here, trying to relax and enjoy the "me" time but really I'm braced for the ringing phone and the screams in the background. Hopefully it will all go well!

Daycare: Day One

Well, it was a bummer.

Adam and I snuck out before Olan realized that we were leaving and when I returned a little over an hour later, he was sobbing. The kind of sobbing where his whole little body was wracked with little shudders and hiccups. :( He just held his little arms out to me and wouldn't calm down until we'd left the building. As soon as we were on the bus, he passed right out, his little body still shuddering every now and then.

I'm anticipating that tomorrow will be much worse, after all, he knows what's going to happen. The "plan" was to leave him for a bit longer but I don't know if I can. I feel like I'm going to barf just thinking about it.

I cheered him up by giving him his favourite lunch, macaroni & cheese, and then we went to his favourite park and played until we could play no more. Hopefully he forgave me.
