Doomo arigatoo okaasan

Olan is a fan of sushi.

We met up with Adam after work and decided to stop and grab some takeout sushi. Put the pile down in front of Olan at home and he immediately grabbed a piece of smoked salmon maki. He was quite smart and used the nori as a sort of squeeze tube to get the rice and salmon into his mouth. He ate two whole pieces and left behind only the chewy stretchy pieces of nori that are too hard for little baby mouths to manage. It was probably the best self-feed experience we've had, usually it's such a mess!

Mama hits the town

Last night I went out drinking and carousing. Met up with some friends (some mom's, some non-mom's) and we parked ourselves on a patio and ate delicious food and drank girlie frosty drinks. It was really fun. Adam and Olan hung out and Olan went to sleep without me, without a hitch. What a good boy.

Today we went to a private club with a friend. It was wonderful, kiddie heaven for sure. We frolicked in the salt-water swimming pools while watching the sailboats go by on the ocean. We played in the sandy playground, zipped up and down the slide, ate a chocolate-chip cookie dough ice cream cone (Olan and I both). My salty, sticky-faced, tired little man crashed hard when we got home, he had such a good time.

This picture was taken this morning. I left Olan on his playmat and he pretended to be absorbed in his toys. I thought that I could easily go and top up my coffee. Somehow, in the 3 seconds that I was gone, he made his way across to the rubber tree and did this. Man can he move!

The Clapper

Olan figured out how to clap. Oh the things you don't remember having to learn.

He's quite delighted with himself and claps all the time. I finished feeding him before bed tonight and he was lying on a pillow on my lap. He was all milky and groggy and I was stroking his head as he succumbed. Suddenly his eyes popped open, he clapped twice and then fell dead asleep.

He's also kind of figured out waving, he waved to his Grandfather when we left on Sunday and he waved to our fan in the bedroom before his nap, a little "see you when I wake up, thanks for keeping me cool".

Could this child of ours be any greater?

Cottage life

Another fun day at the lake. I was shocked at how much progress had been made since last weekend. All the walls are standing and during the day they put in the beams and loft floor support thingies. As you can tell I'm not "quite" up with all the terminology yet. New words get added with each visit but I honestly don't know what half of them mean. Scab is my favourite though :)

The weather was glorious and the lake was warm and soft. Olan had two big swims, one before his nap and one before dinner. He really enjoyed himself, kicking his legs like a little windmill and laughing as he splashed. He loves it when I disappear under the water and then jump back out like a jack in the box. Mom and I took him for his first canoe ride and told him stories of how he and Isabelle would have kicked ass in the doubles canoe race at the Regatta on Six Mile. I'm seriously thinking of starting one on our new lake, such an enriching (chance to kick ass and satisfy evil family competitive spirit) and fulfilling (opportunity for the greatest parties you've ever witnessed) yearly event.

We had a delicious fried chicken and potato salad dinner before packing Adam up in the car to take him back to the city and the restful (in comparison) 9-5 lifestyle. This morning we all slept in til almost 9, our little rooster was tired after his late night. Olan and I are happy to have him home again.

Here's a few pictures from yesterday
