Bits & bites

Ahhh, I've got to keep up with the milestones here! I'm not the good kind of mum who's keeping a baby book recording each and every breath Olan takes. I wish that I had the self-discipline to do it but I just don't. So, I need to at least jot them down here.

Big news, Olan has discovered his bits. For all of those that are now worrying that we're going to teach him to call them his bits, worry not, we'll do the right thing and say penis, although it's so tempting to go the fun route and use favorites such as; willy, johnson, package, shlong, tool, wiener, dong, etc. I could literally go on all day. Anyways, back to the main point (hee hee) they've been found, and every opportunity he's given he grabs on, and holds on for dear life. So begins a life long love affair :)

He has also as of today become somewhat mobile. Neither he nor his cousin seem to be big crawlers, which is hardly surprising since none of us three girls ever crawled. However today he was having some of the dreaded tummy time when he spotted Io lying down across the room. He pushed himself up on his arms and started pushing. Unfortunately his legs weren't really doing anything so he started going backwards, AWAY from the cat. He found this very frustrating but the harder he pushed the faster he kept going in the wrong direction. Poor thing, he loves that cat! He's also started this bum shuffle thing when he's sitting up, he kind of tries to hop on his rear... which usually eventually makes him topple over. He'll figure it all out sometime!

It's a glorious day here today, 30º and sunny, sunny, sunny. It's about bloody time too! I've been sick with the flu for the past two days so it was nice to finally wake up feeling great and be greeted with such sweet weather. We had a great time today. Went and rescued Gran at the Children's Hospital flea market with a large chai tea misto this morning. She was having a great time selling purses and advising people on style issues. She even impressed one man so much with her advice on an attaché case that he came back with paintings and other things asking her professional opinion. Then we saw Tim and Adam off for a day of golf, Tim just flew in from Vermont for the weekend this morning and then we headed to the park, did some shopping, some smiler riding and playing in the grass. Hopefully this glorious weather will stick around for a bit!

Houston, we have a tooth!

This definitely explains Olan's difficult night last night. Who knew that a sharp little tooth was trying to make its way into the world? There we were in yoga class when all of a sudden he started roaring away- not crying but roaring- everyone thought it was hilarious but something seemed to be bothering him. He was holding my hand and next thing I know he bit right onto my finger, kind of a "check this out mom, moment". His gum felt a bit roughish and once I probed around there it was, a sharp little tooth. So now we'll just keep the camilia coming and hope that it doesn't cause him too much distress.

I swear I got so weepy, right in the middle of class when I felt that little sharp little tooth. There were those sweet little gums changed forever. It seems silly, but it means that he's not a little newborn anymore. :(

We went and met Adam in the gardens after work and took some pictures in the glorious forsythia... not a tooth to be seen but I imagine it will be awhile before we can catch one on film (or not since we have a digital camera). We also fed the ducks, Olan is endlessly fascinated with them. They're very greedy right now, especially the females, perhaps because it's nesting season. Anyways, one jumped up on my knee yesterday! Crazy ducks.

Weekend mish mash

Having a great weekend. Uncle Roy and Catherine are here to visit Kayla (who's on a 72 hour pass) so we've been roaming around and just generally having a great old time. Uncle Roy is such a pleasure. At almost 85 he's as sharp as a tack and totally hilarious, he's been keeping us entertained at the dinner table! Yesterday we went and visited Acadia, where Kayla will be going to school next year. What a campus, and a beautiful new building for the Environmental Sciences department. It makes me want to go back to school... just to spend time in such a glorious spot. Olan has been enjoying all the adoring family and the little holiday away from home... things like bathing in the kitchen sink, sleeping in the playpen, so fun! Today, we're off to Mahone Bay and the cottage property, despite the crappo weather!
Here's the gardens the Enviro science building

A pub lunch in Wolfville

Our big salmon dinner last night... the fish was longer fish than Olan!
