Ummm, so yeah, we're back

No I'm not going to just ignore the fact that I haven't blogged in a MILLION years. I have no earthly idea what happened? I think that it's the fault of everyone else who blogs. Everyone who's blog I read, and there's 4 that I read frequently, have been total slackers too. If they all jumped off a bridge would I? Nope, but I had no feeling of "I'd better blog since everyone else seems to find the time". That feeling can usually carry me pretty far. So get busy people! Make me feel bad, come on, DO IT!

A blissful summer it has been. As is comes to a close I'm full of a whirlpool of emotions, whipping around like crazy, churning my stomach up, making my head spin. Our final maternity leave flights are over, the countdown to work is on, I've started weaning Olan and we've found a daycare. Isn't it enough to make anyone barf?

I have about a BILLION photos to post, but here's two to keep you happy. They're both from last week up at the lake.

Right foot, left foot...

Olan took his first steps on August 26th, a big day indeed. It was also the day of his first fever AND his first try at successfully climbing steps. Phew, and you thought that YOU had busy days :)

Since then he has gradually grown more and more confident and is now taking short little walking trips around before the inevitable wipeout. And what spectacular wipeouts they are. How any child learns how to walk without severely maiming themselves for life is beyond me. It's so hard to step back and let him do his thing while hovering close enough to try to dive and catch him... though I imagine much of his life will follow this pattern.

Olan walking is so cute though... SO cute. Yesterday we were at the park and he was stumbling and falling after this 3 year old boy Jack, a "big kid" which makes him a subject of adoration in Olan's eyes. Well Jack's sister, Madeline who was 6.75 years old, was chatting me up since her Dad was busy reading his book and there was nobody more interesting to talk to. She was watching Olan and said, he must be about, hmmmmm, two years old. No, no I said, he's not even one, he's only 10 months old. Whaaaat? she exclaimed, he's ZERO and he can WALK? Hey Daaaaaad, that kid is ZERO and he can walk, isn't that AMAZING? Her Dad of course looked suitably impressed. :)

Here's a little video of some of the first steps.
