Rain, rain, go away!

A bit soggy here on the coast but fairly mild still. We had a lazy morning, the blessed child slept until 9:00, an unheard of occurrence and much appreciated by his mother, who had been up until 1:00 am the night before.

We had a fun and busy day; swimming lessons with the little fish, a library trip, groceries, etc. We're *trying* to keep up with home maintenance and Olan is proving to be quite a good little raker. He's all about helping right now... he helps cook every meal, he helps with the laundry, he helps feed the cats. The other day he was helping with something when he pronounced "Mommy, we have a LOT of jobs!".

Aunty Mer and Dave (with an injured back) stopped in for dinner. Olan is very interested in Dave's back problem and kept trying to fix it. He even insisted on helping Dave out of the car. When we were at the grocery store there was a little motorized cart which Olan thought would be perfect for Dave. :)

We had a delicious meal of shark steaks, Olan's choice. He's on a fish kick that just won't quit.

Summer is here my friends!

Yesiree it is.

At nine o'clock it's still 25 degrees. Sweet bliss. Olan spent the school day on the waterfront and was only back to school for a nap. When we got home we played outside and ate alfresco. What a day!

The happy steak dance, doesn't everyone have one?

Playing us some violin before dinner

Cheers!

Quacko

We had a duck on the loose here tonight. Quacking up a storm and getting into all kinds of mischief. In the end, all he needed was a kiss from a princess (read Aunty Mer) to turn him back into an Olan. Phew, putting a duck to bed was proving to be quite a challenge.

Leave the city behind you...

Our first summery trip to the lake yesterday. It was a beaut of a day, 25 degrees lakeside and not a breath of wind.

Stumbling and sleepy-eyed (the passenger, not the driver) it wasn't long before the sun loosened our bones and got the sap running. Shoes and socks fell by the wayside and little boys rejoiced in wading in the shallows wearing nothing but a pair of water shoes and a t-shirt.

Olan spent his time fishing for halibut and then barbecuing said fish on his special rock barbecue. We both ate it with relish before realizing that we were starving. This imaginary food would not do! What is it about the lake that makes you so HUNGRY? I spread out a towel and we ate the entire snack bag from the car in about 15 minutes flat.

The rest of the day was spent hauling brush, lazing in the loft with books making sure that Olan's sleeping bag still fit (it does) and "fixing" the cottage. I put fixing in quotation marks because Olan thought he needed to fix the building. Watch a two-year old with a tool belt and workgloves making loud screaming/sawing noises while hacking away at the corner of the building and you tell me if you think any "fixing" is taking place.

Just before sunset we shook ourselves off, put on our yucky feet-confining shoes and sobbing (Olan) drove off leaving only a little cloud of dust.

What a day.
